This dining room display cabinet was made as part of a suite of ‘Brunel’ dining room furniture including table and chairs. The furniture was designed for a client whose father was a civil engineer. Remembering that childhood holidays usually included a visit to a ‘special’ bridge, my client asked me if the furniture design could possibly represent some engineering features. The breakfront cabinet consists of open shelves, a central display section with glazed doors and low-level storage behind oak doors with burr oak panels. The solid oak vertical frames of the cabinet are held together at the top by curved connecting bars locked in position by removable walnut pins.
