Over the years we have made a few sets of library steps in varying timbers and dimensions/sizes. The very first set was made out of English Cherry and Ebony. The brief was to design and make a very portable and beautiful set of library steps that would enable the client to access the top shelf of her library. As with some other pieces the design was left entirely to me. I was just given the dimensional limitations and told 'I would like a typical James Morley Furniture piece'. A great compliment and much appreciated. This curvaceous and delicate piece was my answer. The shaped handrail was made of ten very slim slices of cherry wood laminated together in a mould, shaped and then veneered with a slim ebony band.
English Cherry and English Walnut both work well, but it can be the clients choice.
Dimensions: can vary to suit but the top step can be 300, 400 or 500mm off the floor.
