This piece was inspired by some beautiful strong Indian Laurel purchased from a Cornish boat builder. It had brass hinges and lock, was lined with Cedar of Lebanon and fitted with a ripple sycamore sliding tray. A similar one would make a very pleasing keepsake box or indeed a jewellery box.
Out of interest we once made a set of 4 deeds boxes: the same design, slightly smaller in size and in walnut as wedding presents for a client’s four nieces. Each had a brass plaque on the inside of the lid commemorating their marriages.
Indian Laurel, Ripple Sycamore and Cedar of Lebanon.
