Chest made using antique pomelle veneer originally intended for a refit of The Queen Mary luxury ocean liner in the early part of the twentieth century which has spent years moving from one auction house to another before I acquired it from a furniture restorer in Ramsgate.
The rich colour of the pomelle is set off by the Karellian birch inlay and the elm burr detail. The interior of the lid is finished with ripple sycamore and macassar ebony and the chest is lined with cherry and boxwood, with trays of walnut lined with faux suede.
The brass hardware is unique, custom made to my design to make the piece truly special, and it is fitted with an extremely high quality Bramah lock, the first version of which was not picked for 67 years from the date of it’s invention in 1783.
...and of course, there is a secret compartment...
