Inspired by eclectic New York nonagenarian style icon Iris Apfel with her dazzling collection of accessories and her trademark large round spectacles, Iris Vanity Box is a celebration of old world charm laced with contemporary attitude.
Iris is handcrafted in solid American black walnut and features detailing in the form of inlaid stripes of prehistoric English bog oak (5,300 years old), steamed English pear, European walnut and American beech. She features a large circular, partially-framed, angled face mirror, mounted above the box, which is backed on a solid bronze finished brass plate.
The box accommodates a lamb nappa and suede-lined jewellery and accessories drawer with individual compartments and poche-vide, which is opened via a secret, concealed button incorporating a handmade wood-hinge and spring mechanism as used in fine Victorian treasure chests.
Iris is finished in a highly protective hard-wax oil which brings out the tonal qualities of the walnut and the contrasting timbers, giving a satin-smooth feel and lustre.
This piece is inlaid with a gold maker's mark and a numbered edition disc – only 25 will ever be made.
