Inspired by the 4-colour mall theorem, which states that the minimum number of colours you need to fill in any map such that no two adjacent countries have the same colour, is four.
This exquisite box has marquetry decoration using the map of London to show that the theorem works. The box is fitted as a jewellery box, with a removable tray in walnut and lined with ultra suede.
The casket itself is made from burr and fugured walnut, with marqutery of burr ash, burr chestnut, bleached bird's etye maple and red maple burr. The interior of the hinged lid is veneered with bird's eye maple and inlaid with dyed blue veneer.
