THE EXTRAORDINARY CABINET
It was truly extraordinary how the extraordinary cabinet came into existence.
In the designer's words:
' I acquired ,by pure luck ,some spectacular solid English walnut with amazing figure and put it aside for a very special job.
This ,the rarest of English hardwoods had to go into a truly spectacular piece.
I had a lull in commissions and decided to design the extraordinary cabinet on the basis of using this amazing timber.
The extra ordinary cabinet used all the timber I had.
I included in this piece for visual contrast ,Lemonwood and extremely rare pink Ivorywood details & Circular recessed turned handles'.
The extraordinary cabinet supports two outer casing cabinets,via two full-length solid Walnut architectural cantilever barrel hinges ,with solid pink Ivory outrigger arms.
These outer casing cabinets close,revealing a neat solid walnut elegant pedestal showing the architectural cantilever hinges on either side with amazing and beautiful solid walnut figured fascia.
When fully opened the cabinet is double the width,incorporating five superbly made solid walnut drawers on either side,all with hand cut dovetails with solid walnut interiors ,incorporating Pink ivory wood roundel/turned handles.
The central consul incorporates ,a superbly made tambour, in alternating strips of English Walnut and Lemonwood with an art deco style tambour pull in pink Ivory wood.
When opened ,The bureau reveals two beautifully made solid walnut drawers with Deco style demi pull handles in Pink Ivorywood & Walnut sandwich effect.
The walnut horizontal detail below the bureau drawers ingenuously pulls out on a tambour, giving a very useful and sturdy surface for glasses in alternating bands of solid walnut and Lemon wood.
Below the bureau are incorporated 20 wine storage portals,with hand turned walnut bezels on a Lemonwood background.
Above the bureau there is an adjustable shelf for wine glasses and tumblers also storage on either side of the cabinet leaves for glasses and sundries.
