From a view of Le Corbusiers' 'Unitè d'Habitation', Marseille, this piece attempts to capture a little of the rawness, refinement and resilience shared by work of the Arts and Crafts and Modernist movements. Made entirely from solid oak with drawer and door pulls of African ebony, the flat front of the cabinet is given visual depth through the natural shading of the grain. This effect is complimented by the textured detail on the complex end frames which emerge from the ‘Golden Ratio‘ recesses.
Beyond the imagery, this cabinet is a functional object with three useful drawers placed between two storage compartments, each with an adjustable shelf on ebony pegs. This piece was designed and made by Ian Cresswell and is the recipient of Bespoke Guild Mark No. 396 from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.
