Ideas for my furniture can come from the most surprising places. This design was inspired by some photographs taken of a yacht, standing out of the water on trestles in a Cornish boatyard. The walnut under-frame is designed to represent the trestle and the maple top shaped to look like the hull of the yacht. Held in place by tensioned steel cables, the top is simply balanced on the vertical points of the under-frame, forming the only contact between the two sections.
