Simple three legged 'Y' stool in steam bent ash, and part of the 'Y' range.
Our design intention with the Y range was to create a range of simple elegant furniture that is crafted from local wood with minimal processing.
We developed a strong universal form that could work across the range. To create the triangulated Y shape a length of timber is partially sliced with TCT tipped bandsaw blades and steam-bent to shape.
The Y stool is a development of simple three legged stools. The inner stems of the legs are rounded off and wedged through the chair top but the outside stem is notched into the top creating a strong stable stool. A three legged stool is particularly good on uneven surfaces such as an old flagstone floor.
The stool is spray finished with clear matt laquer to preserve the light colour of the ash.
Materials ash Features Hand-made from local Perthshire ash. Split and steam-bent Y component forms legs. Dished seat.
